Stair nosings at Railway Station in Wakefield West Yorkshire
The steps forming this large access stairway in the main entrance of a west Yorkshire railway station were found to be very slippery due to ineffective stair nosings. Removal & replacement was difficult due to the structural fixings of the existing nosing’s but also due to the exceptionally high foot fall. Each side of the staircase was closed down to undertake the work leaving the other open for access.
The original black stair nosing’s were covered with preformed GRP nosing’s installed in safety yellow. The new anti-slip nosings were bonded and fixed in place over the top of the existing nosing’s with Stainless Steel fixings and a strong contact adhesive. The work was undertaken over a weekend period with no disruption to passengers. The stairs were back in full service by the following Monday morning.
